As a longtime writer, I know how difficult it can be to translate your thoughts into written words — and how frustrating it can feel for something not to turn out just the way you wanted it to.

I also know how, after hours and hours of working on a writing project, the last thing you want to do is look at it with an editor’s eye and attention to detail.

That’s where I can help. As an editor, I will work with you to help you realize your vision for your written piece, whether that’s an article, blog post, resume, job or school application, or a creative work.

I believe editing is a collaborative process — it’s not just me swooping in and commandeering your manuscript. Instead, I want to learn about your wants and needs for the piece, what your writing voice is like, and what you want the piece to convey to readers.

Let’s work together to figure out the type of editing you need. I offer the following editing services:

Proofreading: I will check your manuscript for obvious errors such as misspellings and other typos. This is a light form of editing that is helpful when a piece has already been edited more thoroughly, but needs an extra set of eyes before it’s sent out into the world. Recommended for things like resumes and applications.

Copyediting: For when you need your writing to adhere to a set style guideline. I will make sure usage of punctuation, spelling, capitalization, and more is consistent. I’m most familiar with AP style, but can also do customized editing if you provide me with a copy of your organization’s style guide. This type of editing is great for articles or blog posts or other short-form writing that will be published online or in print.

Line editing: I will review your writing line by line, checking for errors and inconsistencies plus noting any places where meaning isn’t clear, wording is weak, or sentences can be made more succinct. This type of editing can benefit almost any project, but is especially helpful for creative writers who want advice on making their work more readable.

Developmental editing: This kind of editing deals more with the ideas expressed in your piece and how they are organized. I will look for places where structure is hard to follow or unclear and make suggestions for revision. This kind of editing is helpful when you have a draft of a project you’re working on and want to make sure your ideas are translating onto the page.
